DAVID Dolan made a successful start to his life as a cruiserweight with a fourth round knockout of Brazilian Elvecio Sobral.
Dolan, who finished runner-up in the first ever Prizefighter heavyweight tournament earlier this year when he lost to Belfast's Martin Rogan in the final, has decided to drop down a weight.
The fight, held at the Everton Park Sports Centre in Liverpool, started in comical fashion when Sobral tried to charge Dolan, ended up rugby tackling him and the pair ended up in a heap on the floor.
But from then on Dolan looked in complete control against an opponent that hardly threw anything in the opening two rounds.
Sobral, sensing he was outclassed, complained to the referee twice about Dolan punching him on the back of the head but on each occasion the referee ignored his claims as Dolan unloaded a barrage of punches.
After 33 seconds of the fourth round the contest was over with a powerful combination from Dolan then sent Sobral to his knees and he did not get up in time.
"He was so cagey at the start of the fight," said Dolan. "He was a bit of an unknown quantity but because of his stoppages deserved a bit of respect.
"I had to be patient and nick the rounds but it was hard to catch him because he covered up well.
"He left no gaps so I got through with body shots. He then walked on to my uppercut and I landed it really cleanly. It felt a good shot and it must've been because he didn't get up.
"Going in at cruiserweight, (trainer) Neil (Fannon) thought it was a good idea and we're always discussing things like that."
Also on the undercard, Ted Bami stopped Stuart Elwell with 18 seconds left in the seventh round.
After a slow start from both fighters, the contest sprung into life in the seventh when a cracking right to the body by Bami saw Elwell bounce off the ropes.
Bami, a former European Light-Welterweight Champion, fired another stunning blow to Elwell's body and he was down.
Elwell got up an eight but another attack from Bami saw him gain the victory, which he celebrated in style with a backflip somersault.
"The performance is what we were expecting," said Bami. "I was a bit worried about my shoulder from my last fight so I was taking it easy but I knew I would stop him.
"It was playing on my mind, especially in the first round as I threw a punch and hurt my shoulder but I tried to put that behind me.
"Last year I had a family problem and had to vacate my title but I'm hungry again now.
"I believe in myself that I belong up there with people like Junior Witter and Ricky Hatton. It meant a lot to me to be European Champion.
"Matchroom are working hard for me and doing their best so by the end of this year I should have another shot."

Scott Quigg came off the canvas to defeat Italian Angelo Villani in their super-bantamweight contest.
Quigg began by peppering Villani's face with a succession of left jabs but a left hook by Villani later in the opening round saw the Manchester fight down.
But that spurred Quigg into action and his hand speed proved too good for Villani, who had to take a lot of punishment. A chopping right to head with Villani on the ropes sent the Italian crashing to the canvas.
He got to his feet but a minute later it was all over as Quigg maintained his unbeaten record with his eighth win of his career.
Liverpool trio John Donnelly (bantamweight), Steve Williams (light-welterweight) and Joe Smyth (light-heavyweight) all recorded points victories over Faycal Massaoudene, Carl Taylor and Paul Bonson respectively. Manchester's Rhys Roberts also won on points in the last fight of the night - a four round super-bantamweight contest with Walsall's Delroy Spencer.
